BMI Healthcare can trace its origins to 1970, and in April 2006 it was acquired by a consortium led jointly by Netcare Limited, a South African healthcare company listed on the Johan nesburg Securities Exchange (JSE), and the private equity company Apax Partners. Between 2007 and present day BMI Healthcare has grown to 59 hospitals and treatment centres in the UK.


BMI have over 6,000 registered consultants, offer 115 different specialties and services, with centres of excellence in Spinal, Orthopaedic, Neuro, Cardiac and Cancer Care.

BMI Benefits


BMI offers a generous range of employee benefits. There are some variations depending on hours worked, length of service and/ or level of seniority within the business, but all employees are entitled to:

  • Holidays: 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays, rising to a maximum of 30 days with length of service.
  • Pension: Defined Contribution pension scheme, managed by Friends Provident. Minimum employee contribution level 2% employee contribution, 3.5% employer contribution. Matched employer/ employee contributions of 4.5% after 2years.
  • Private Medical Insurance: Employees with 6 months’ service may apply for free private medical cover (pro-rata charge apply for those working reduced hours). You may opt to cover your partner and/ or any dependent children at a small additional charge.
  • Life Insurance: Once you have reached two years service, in the unfortunate event that you were to die whilst employed by BMI Healthcare, your dependants would receive a tax-free lump sum of 2x your basic annual salary.
  • Childcare Vouchers: BMI operates a childcare voucher scheme, which is available to all employees.
  • Family and Friends discount: Family and friends are eligible for a discount of up to 20% on hospital treatment and services.
